Re:Verse reading–Luke 1:1-38 (day two) It seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught. vs. 3-4
Aren’t you grateful for these four men who captured the life of Jesus in narrative form? Four different perspectives; some first hand accounts, some gathered through the testimony of others, and yet all in agreement about the person of Jesus. It was clear to Luke from the beginning that this account was to instruct, affirm, and clarify all that was being said about Jesus. Little did he know, perhaps, that this primer would serve as a key component in the gospel texts.
One of my favorite things about a book is reading it again. I always find something new. Sometimes I didn’t have enough life experience to really appreciate what the author was saying, and when I encounter it again I see with new eyes. Let’s read this story again and see how the Lord through Luke can tell us something new.
It is amazing how information about the Lord Jesus was gathered, studied and recorded by Luke considering the environments of his time. Any information for learning that met the test of times must be accurate and reliable. It seems to me that Luke did an incredible job in his effort to provide accurate and reliable information about Jesus which would help build our faith and trust in Jesus!
We learn by and can grow and develop from facts, not from imaginations or superstitions. It takes scholarly and academic research and findings to build accurate and reliable information for teaching and learning. I believe that Luke did achieve his purpose as a follower of Christ and as an educator on the life of Jesus.
By “tasking” Luke with the job of researching and writing on Jesus’ truth, I believe it was God’s intent to build confidence and trust in Christ’s followers. The gospel cannot grow on faked information or on teaching and learning contents that are not built on facts and truth.
Learning and relearning are essential for personal growth and development. We may see different applications or develop new perspectives with the same facts as we are more matured or as we gained more experience or exposures in life. Luke was a thinker as he passed on Jesus’ truth early on so Jesus’ truth was not be subject to men’s imaginations and inconsistent teachings! He may have an ISTJ personality!
In pursuit of learning and teaching excellence, truth must be the foundation for all who are part of this learning and teaching journeys!
