Hearing

Re: Verse reading–Luke 16:19-31 (day five)

‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

The message God has given us through the scriptures is enough for the human heart to hear and believe the saving call of our Heavenly Father.  “From childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Jesus would interact with people preaching/teaching the scriptures.  Not all would “hear” or even be interested.  But there were some.  He would then begin a more personal interaction with them.

Great strategy for us. Speak and share the message of the scriptures (Gospel, Biblical Truths).  There will be some who are interested and want to know more.  Continue the conversation. Invite them to trust and follow Christ.  “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Will you share so people can “hear”?

  1. Two important points to note in terms of spreading the Gospel of Jesus: 1) Jesus would begin a more personal interaction with those who preached and taught the scriptures, and 2) speak and share the message of the scriptures (Gospel, Biblical Truths). There will be some who are interested and want to know more.

I could not agree more with those two observations mentioned above. For effective change effort, target those who are interested in and are ready to hear and to know more about Jesus first and build personal relationships and fellowship with them. Openness and ongoing communication and conversations about the scriptures and how they apply in their real life situations will help build trust and confidence in Jesus’ words and extend the base of Jesus’ followers. We know for sure some will hear but will not change their hearts but some will. People want to hear what their benefits are in following Jesus, given their current situations or problems? And Why Jesus, not Satan, is a solution and resolution provider?

This blog touches on the concepts of how people learn. We all learn differently. I was in the Federal government training administration for the National Transportation Safety Board for more than 16 years. Visual and auditory learners are the two types I am familiar with.

Visual learners learn best by looking, seeing, viewing, and watching. During a lecture or a discussion, they tend to take detailed notes to absorb information while auditory learners learn best by listening, hearing, and speaking. They learn best through lectures, discussions, and brainstorming. Written information has little meaning to them until they hear it.

Do you know your audiences for the purpose of spreading the Biblical truths and the Gospel? Are they visual or auditory learners? Are you visual or auditory learners? To help shape or promote a new spiritual perspective, both approaches for communication of the learning contents about Jesus may be needed! It is a huge understanding and commitment to serve God! God chose and will choose who can do these tasks for His glory!
